Have you ever got into an argument with your boyfriend or spouse and slapped him? Have you ever been so angry with your child that you find yourself screaming at him or her from the top of your lungs? Do you pick up the first thing you can find and throw it in fits of anger? Are you the person at the club breaking beer bottles over people’s heads?
Have you ever wondered why you act this way? It has been said that women are very emotional creatures. While that may be somewhat true, why is it that some women can control their emotions and some cannot? There is no easy answer to this question. The only real answer lies inside of every woman. Every woman has to be willing to look deep within herself, ask the tough questions, and make the decision that she needs to take control of her life.
Too many times we let the situations in our lives dictate our reaction. We let our emotions get the best of us. Instead of taking the time to think things through, we let our emotions take control and lead us into doing things that we will only regret later. As women, we have to learn how to step back, look at the big picture, and then form a response that will be more appropriate for the situation. In other words, we have to learn how to choose our battles. We have to decide what’s more important, short term gratification, or a long term solution.
As a woman, it is very important that you learn how to take control of your emotions. You cannot continue to allow yourself to spin out of control. Being so emotional can wreak havoc on your life in so many ways. It can affect your relationships with family, friends, and coworkers. It can affect the way that you make decisions, interact with others, and the way you view yourself. It can even impact your mental and physical health (i.e. depression, heart attack, anxiety attacks, stress, headaches, and fatigue).
The next time you feel like your emotions are in overdrive, consider taking the following steps to regain control:
Ø Walk away from the situation
Ø Take several deep breaths
Ø Find you a quiet place (a bedroom, bathroom, closet, etc)
Ø Meditate, yoga
Ø Exercise
Ø Engage in an activity that you enjoy
Once you have had a chance to calm down, you can begin to evaluate the situation with a clear mind. Understand that you may not be able to get everything you want out of the situation; therefore, you must be willing to compromise. Take yourself out of the situation and look at the big picture. Decide on what’s really important and come up with a solution that will work best for everyone involved.
Ladies, have your emotions ever lead you to do some things that you now regret? If you can go back to that time, would your response to that situation be the same or will it be different? Have your emotions taken a toll on your health? If so, what can you do to get back on the road to good health?
Ladies, it’s time to start living life FREE (Forgiven, Renewed, Encouraged, and Empowered). You can win the war against your emotions. Take control of your emotions and stop letting them take control of you!
